About Us

Mission Statement

To identify avenues for the members of Grandfather Golf and Country Club to improve lives of the people of Avery County and mobilize the members to do so through education and service opportunities.

Our Purpose

The Grandfather Community Foundation embodies one of Grandfather Golf & Country Club's core values ... community. We do that by providing financial assistance to employees and local agencies in need. We also offer academic scholarships to Avery County high school students.

People have emergencies. Cars break down. Food banks need supplies. Kids need computers for school. Students need help paying for higher education.

Avery County is one of the poorest, most economically-challenged regions in North Carolina. Since much of the local economy is based on seasonal employment opportunities supported by mostly summer residents or visitors, resources are often unavailable or - at best - are limited. Food insecurity is a serious, ongoing problem here. This part of the state really feels the tough times.

How We Help

• Providing employees with emergency funds

• Funding grant requests from local Avery County agencies (i.e., food banks)

• Offering continuing education academic scholarships to Avery County High School seniors
